Which Divorce Option Is Right for You?
An uncontested divorce can be handled three different ways. Here's an honest look at each — including who each one is actually for.
How to choose
Choose forms only if…
You already understand your court's process, you have no children and few assets, and you just need the documents. You'll be doing your own research on local rules and deadlines.
Choose the DIY course if…
You and your spouse agree, you want to save thousands, but you don't want to guess. You get the forms plus the examples, the calculator, the checklist, and the hearing prep — the parts people actually get stuck on.
Choose done-for-you if…
Your time is worth more than the difference in price, or paperwork genuinely stresses you out. A service handles preparation; you still file with your court.
Hire an attorney if…
Your spouse won't cooperate, you disagree about custody or property, there's a business or pension to divide, or there's any history of abuse. No course or service replaces a lawyer in a contested case.
Uncontested is the key word
All three options assume your divorce is uncontested — you and your spouse agree on the terms. If you don't agree yet, that's the first thing to work out, because a contested divorce is a different animal entirely.
